Liposuction is a procedure that will give you a fresh, trim body and get rid of fat from any pesky areas you are trying to shift weight from. Liposuction can be performed in various places, including the abdomen, thighs, hips, back, buttocks, knees, ankles, calves, arms, love handles/flanks, chin, mons pubis and the chest (in males). It is also possible to include more than one are on surgery day.
The best candidate for liposuction is someone who is:
- Looking to lose weight from pesky areas where it cannot be shifted
- Experiencing massive weight loss
- Experiencing changes in weight due to pregnancy
As with any cosmetic surgery procedure, it is important to remember that your surgery will not turn you into someone else and you should not rely on your procedure to change your life. If you are considering undergoing a procedure it is imperative you speak to someone you trust, are happy in your life and are simply seeking to enhance your appearance and confidence, rather than looking to completely change who you are. It is equally important you are psychologically ready.
Preparing for your Procedure:
It is important to discuss with your doctors and with us any:
- Medical conditions you have
- The medication you are taking - prescription, herbal and non-prescription
Once you arrive at your destination you will have a physical evaluation with your surgeon, where you will discuss your goals and concerns where you will finalise the plan for surgery. At this examination your surgeon will determine the best procedure for you and explain it to you in detail, including any limitations - after all, it is important that you head into surgery with realistic goals. It is during this examination that your surgeon will also make recommendations for other procedures.
In the lead-up to your surgery, it is important you do the following:
- Stop smoking. Smoking can cause problems with circulation and increase the possibility of complications
What to Expect:
Length of surgery:
This procedure takes one to two hours, per area treated. Whether it is an outpatient surgery or requires an overnight stay depends on how much fat is removed.
Recovery and post-op care:
After your surgery it is common to experience discomfort, swelling and bruising for the first few weeks, as well as fluid leading and raining for several days. The surgeon will fit you with special, compression garments after your surgery to help with skin remodelling and these should be worn for six weeks. During the recovery period, it is common to be restricted with movement and activities. Swelling can last months and it is not until it wears off that you will see the effects of the liposuction, this usually starts around the four to six weeks mark.
It is important to have a healthy lifestyle and partake in regular exercise to help to maintain your new shape.
Length of Stay:
It is recommended you stay on holiday for 10 to 14 days, during which time you will likely have to follow-up appointments with your surgeon. To get the most out of your recovery time we suggest you partake in gentle exercise, yoga classes and treat yourself to some pampering. If you are feeling up to it, there is plenty to see and do in Phuket, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.
Other procedures to consider:
Non-surgical procedures can also be added to give an even more youthful appearance and change the texture of your skin so you return home even more refreshed, such as cosmetic fillers for reducing fine lines of laser resurfacing and chemical peels.
Preconditions and risks:
Risks and complications are minimised by using our highly-skilled, trusted doctors and nurses. However, with every precaution taken complications can still occur. These are rare and few patients experience any issues. If you have any concerns about your procedure and the possible preconditions and risks, discuss them with your doctor and nurses.
Potential risks include:
- Collection of wound fluid
It is important to read the general preconditions and risks page before any surgery.
Liposuction helps sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat.
Pockets of excess fat accumulate in the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck.
A small cannula is inserted through small incisions and at the other end of the tube is a vacuum-pressure unit to suck out the fat.
Compression garment help reduce swelling and continue swelling.
When swelling subsides you will see your new shape.
